Preparing to go to Vanuatu (CMS)

Matt and Ellen Tyler are preparing to go to Vanuatu to serve in Bible translation work.

Starting 2024

  • Matt and Ellen hope to partner with local Christians in translating the Bible into one of Vanuatu’s many minority languages.

    It has been said that a Bible translator in Vanuatu is like a one-person Bible college because you teach the gospel deeply to the translation team, who then teach it to many. Although Christianity is far reaching in Vanuatu, the gospel has not penetrated deeply into the hearts of local believers — many do not have access to the Bible in their heart language.

    Through translation work, Matt & Ellen hope to disciple and train locals in faithfully understanding and applying the Bible.

    Christ Church St Ives is excited to join the Tylers as one of their supporting Churches as they embark on their missionary journey. We look forward to meeting them in person when they will visit us for their deputation in Feb/Mar 2024

    • Only six out of over 100 language groups in Vanuatu have access to the complete Bible

    • Mixing Christianity with traditional beliefs, practices and fear of witchcraft and evil spirits

    • Christianity can be seen as irrelevant or just for ‘white people’

    Opportunities

    • Translating the Bible into the heart language of a people group in Vanuatu

    • Deeper discipleship of those who want to follow Jesus

  • Throughout 2023 Matt and Ellen trained with Bible translator trainers in rural Melbourne in preparation for ministry in Vanuatu. They will commence their initial home assignment in Feb 2024 with their various supporting churches, and we look forward to meeting them when they visit Christ Church on Sun 25 Feb and Sun 3 Mar.
